- February 2 2025EU — AI Act — Chapter I & IIProhibited practices ban takes effectArticle 5 prohibitions (social scoring, real-time biometric ID with narrow exceptions, emotion recognition in schools/workplace, untargeted facial-image scraping, etc.) become enforceable. AI literacy obligation (Article 4) applies.
- August 2 2025EU — AI Act — Chapter VGPAI model obligations take effectGeneral-purpose AI model provider obligations become enforceable (Articles 51-56), including systemic risk classification, model documentation, and Code of Practice adherence.
- January 1 2026Texas — TRAIGA (HB 149)Texas Responsible AI Governance Act effectiveTexas AI law focused on prohibited high-risk uses in state government, biometric use restrictions, and certain private-sector duties. Enforced by the Texas AG.
- February 2 2026EU — AI Act — Article 6(1)Product-safety high-risk category obligations enforceableObligations for AI systems that are safety components of products already covered by Union harmonization law (Annex I) become fully enforceable when placed on the market.
- June 30 2026Colorado — Colorado AI Act (SB 24-205)Deployer and developer obligations take effectFirst US comprehensive AI law modeled on EU AI Act. High-risk system risk-management program, impact assessments, consumer notice, right to appeal. Enforced by Colorado AG. 60-day cure period.
- August 2 2026EU — AI Act — Chapter III (main body)High-risk AI Annex III system obligations enforceableAnnex III high-risk systems (biometric ID, critical infrastructure, education, employment, essential services, law enforcement, migration, justice/democracy) — full provider obligations including CE marking, conformity assessment, and post-market monitoring apply.
