    New YorkRAISE Act (S.6953)
    Frontier model transparency requirements
    Requires large frontier AI model developers operating in New York to publish safety and security protocols. Enforced by the AG.
  2. August 2 2027
    EUAI Act — Article 6(1) grandfathered
    Full high-risk product-safety obligations apply
    Extended grace period ends for product-safety AI systems placed on the market before Aug 2 2026 — must now meet full high-risk requirements.
  3. December 2 2027
    EUAI Act — Article 111(2) amendment
    Extended deadline for certain Annex III systems
    Grace extension for certain in-use Annex III systems, per December 2024 amendment package.
  4. August 2 2030
    EUAI Act — public-sector large-scale IT
    Public-sector legacy AI compliance deadline
    Public-sector Annex X large-scale IT systems must reach full compliance by this date.

    New York CityLocal Law 144
    AEDT bias audit rule enforced
    NYC begins enforcing Local Law 144 requiring annual independent bias audits for automated employment decision tools used on NYC residents.
  2. August 1 2024
    EUAI Act
    AI Act entered into force
    Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 published in the Official Journal on July 12 2024; entered into force 20 days later. Application dates staggered by article.
  3. February 2 2025
    EUAI Act — Chapter I & II
    Prohibited practices ban takes effect
    Article 5 prohibitions (social scoring, real-time biometric ID with narrow exceptions, emotion recognition in schools/workplace, untargeted facial-image scraping, etc.) become enforceable. AI literacy obligation (Article 4) applies.
  4. August 2 2025
    EUAI Act — Chapter V
    GPAI model obligations take effect
    General-purpose AI model provider obligations become enforceable (Articles 51-56), including systemic risk classification, model documentation, and Code of Practice adherence.
  5. January 1 2026
    TexasTRAIGA (HB 149)
    Texas Responsible AI Governance Act effective
    Texas AI law focused on prohibited high-risk uses in state government, biometric use restrictions, and certain private-sector duties. Enforced by the Texas AG.
  6. February 2 2026
    EUAI Act — Article 6(1)
    Product-safety high-risk category obligations enforceable
    Obligations for AI systems that are safety components of products already covered by Union harmonization law (Annex I) become fully enforceable when placed on the market.
  7. June 30 2026
    ColoradoColorado AI Act (SB 24-205)
    Deployer and developer obligations take effect
    First US comprehensive AI law modeled on EU AI Act. High-risk system risk-management program, impact assessments, consumer notice, right to appeal. Enforced by Colorado AG. 60-day cure period.
  8. August 2 2026
    EUAI Act — Chapter III (main body)
    High-risk AI Annex III system obligations enforceable
    Annex III high-risk systems (biometric ID, critical infrastructure, education, employment, essential services, law enforcement, migration, justice/democracy) — full provider obligations including CE marking, conformity assessment, and post-market monitoring apply.
