Vanta alternatives and competitors

For teams choosing a compliance automation platform for SOC 2, ISO 27001 and AI frameworks, at first purchase or at renewal. Vanta is the largest platform here by customer count (16,000, by its own count) and one of the few that publishes list prices: on AWS Marketplace, plans start at $14,000 a year for 1-20 employees. Every alternative below was checked against the vendor's own pages on October 15, 2026.

Why buyers evaluate alternatives to Vanta

Synthesized from public reviews, pricing posture, and product gaps. No fabricated quotes.

Price is the usual trigger. Vanta's AWS prices apply only to companies with 1-20 employees, larger companies are quoted, and third-party risk management is a separate product ($13,600 a year for up to 50 vendors on AWS). Other buyers want a lower published entry price, a single vendor for readiness and the audit, more hands-on expert help, or a wider framework library for an enterprise program. AI coverage alone is rarely a reason to leave: Vanta has dedicated ISO 42001, NIST AI RMF and EU AI Act products, and most alternatives document less for the EU AI Act.

The alternatives

#1

Drata

Best for: Growing companies running several frameworks that want third-party risk and a Trust Center from one vendor

Compare

Drata is the closest like-for-like alternative. Both automate evidence and control monitoring across 30+ frameworks, both have pre-built ISO 42001 and NIST AI RMF frameworks, and both sell third-party risk management and a Trust Center (Drata's is built on SafeBase, which it bought for $250 million in 2025). For AI programs the gap is the EU AI Act: Drata lists AIUC-1 but not the Act, which it maps to only in its limited-availability AI Agent Governance product. Its AWS listing charges a $25,000 platform fee for a 100-FTE organization plus $7,500 per framework, so compare quotes at your own headcount.

Where it wins

  • Pre-built ISO 42001, NIST AI RMF and AIUC-1 frameworks.
  • Rated 4.7 on G2 from 1,397 reviews (October 2026).
  • More than 175 audit firms in its Audit Alliance.

Where it loses

  • No EU AI Act framework.
  • Smallest AWS purchase is $32,500 a year: the platform fee plus one framework.
#2

Secureframe

Best for: Startups and smaller companies that want a published price and ISO 42001 or NIST AI RMF templates

Compare

Secureframe has the lowest published entry price of the large platforms. Its Fundamentals plan starts at $7,500 a year with one compliance framework, against $14,000 for Vanta Essentials on AWS. It added ISO 42001 and the NIST AI RMF in May 2024; its framework pages describe policy templates, pre-built tests, continuous monitoring and AI risk management for each. It says it added full EU AI Act support in September 2025, though it has not published what that support includes. Its Defense plan adds CMMC tooling, such as a system security plan and a plan of action and milestones, for companies that sell to the US government.

Where it wins

  • Fundamentals plan from $7,500 a year, published on its site.
  • ISO 42001 and NIST AI RMF with policy templates and pre-built tests.
  • A Defense plan with CMMC tooling.

Where it loses

  • Fundamentals and Complete each include one framework; Complete and Defense are quoted.
  • EU AI Act support is documented only as a help-center update.
#3

Sprinto

Best for: Startups and mid-market teams that want ISO 42001 plus visibility into employee AI tool use

Compare

Sprinto says more than 4,000 companies use it and lists 300+ integrations. Its ISO 42001 offering includes policy templates, coverage of the standard's control objectives and continuous monitoring, and it detects AI tool use across browser extensions, managed devices, integrations and SSO sign-ins, then routes new tools to owners for approval. Its EU AI Act support is thinner than Vanta's: a free applicability checker and a landing page, and the NIST AI RMF appears only as a control set it maps from.

Where it wins

  • Dedicated ISO 42001 offering with continuous monitoring.
  • Discovers AI tool use across browsers, devices, integrations and SSO.
  • 300+ integrations.

Where it loses

  • No public pricing, and AI Governance is a paid add-on.
  • No documented EU AI Act control set or NIST AI RMF framework page.
#4

Scrut Automation

Best for: Small teams that want pre-built AI framework controls and expert help

Compare

Scrut's AWS Marketplace listing is $15,000 a year for organizations of up to 20 employees, close to Vanta Essentials. Its ISO 42001 offering includes pre-built controls and policies, controls pre-mapped from ISO 27001 and 40+ risk templates, and its NIST AI RMF offering has pre-built controls across the four functions and hundreds of pre-built tests. Scrut announced its own ISO 42001 certification in February 2025. Its AWS listing names the EU AI Act among its supported frameworks, but it has not published an EU AI Act control set.

Where it wins

  • Pre-built ISO 42001 and NIST AI RMF controls.
  • Published AWS price for up to 20 employees.
  • In-house compliance experts.

Where it loses

  • The published price applies only to 20 employees or fewer.
  • Lists the EU AI Act but publishes no EU AI Act control set.
#5

Thoropass

Best for: Companies that want readiness software and the audit from one vendor

Compare

Thoropass, which started as Laika, pairs a compliance platform with its own auditors: SOC audits run through its licensed CPA firm, and a subsidiary was accredited in September 2026 to perform ISO/IEC 27001 certification audits. For AI it offers ISO 42001 readiness with policies, control sets and guided AI system impact assessments. It does not list the EU AI Act or the NIST AI RMF, and it does not say which body certifies its customers to ISO 42001. Its First Pass AI pre-screens evidence before an auditor sees it.

Where it wins

  • Readiness software and the audit from one vendor.
  • ISO 42001 readiness with guided AI impact assessments.
  • First Pass AI pre-screens evidence for common rejections.

Where it loses

  • No public pricing.
  • No EU AI Act or NIST AI RMF support.
#6

Hyperproof

Best for: Mid-market and enterprise compliance teams running many frameworks

Compare

Hyperproof suits teams that already run a large program; Appian, for example, runs 28 frameworks on it. Its library lists ISO 42001, the EU AI Act, the NIST AI RMF and the Cloud Security Alliance's AI Controls Matrix, but Hyperproof does not describe the controls or templates behind those entries. Its AI features are recent (Hyperproof AI entered early access in September 2025), and it bought Expent.ai in October 2025 to extend third-party risk management.

Where it wins

  • 160+ framework library, including four AI frameworks.
  • Built for programs with dozens of frameworks.
  • AI-native third-party risk management.

Where it loses

  • No public pricing.
  • AI frameworks are listed but their content is not described.
#7

Scytale

Best for: Startups and mid-market companies that want expert help as well as software

Compare

Scytale pairs its platform with a dedicated compliance expert for each customer, which suits teams without an in-house GRC lead. It supports ISO 42001 by reusing controls shared with ISO 27001, and added the EU AI Act as a framework in September 2025, though its announcement does not say which controls or templates are included. Its AI agent, Scy, reviews evidence, flags control gaps and drafts fixes.

Where it wins

  • A dedicated compliance expert for every customer.
  • ISO 42001 and EU AI Act on the same platform as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.

Where it loses

  • No public pricing.
  • EU AI Act content is not documented in detail.

Our recommendation

Criteria-based, not editorial opinion.

If price is the problem, Secureframe has the lowest published entry price ($7,500 a year) and Scrut is close to Vanta at $15,000 for up to 20 employees. If you want the audit from the same company, Thoropass is the only option here that performs it. For hands-on help, Scytale and Scrut include in-house compliance experts. For a large multi-framework program, Drata and Hyperproof are the closest fits. If the EU AI Act is a near-term requirement, check each vendor's EU AI Act content in a demo. Vanta documents the most; Secureframe, Scrut, Scytale and Hyperproof list the Act without publishing a control set; Sprinto offers an applicability checker; Drata and Thoropass do not list it as a framework.
